Reies Tijerina photograph collection [picture]. [1944-1992]

The photos in this collection relate to the Alianza Federal de Pueblos Libres and other events in the life of land grant activist Reis Lopez Tijerina (RLT). Most notablely, the collection includes photographs taken during the 2nd through the 5th Annual Alianza Conventions (1964- 1967), the "Poor People's March" on Washington DC (1968), "Tijerina for Governor" march (1968), Los Duranes Improvement Assoication School Protest (Albuquerque, late 1960's), the Fourth Annual Brotherhood Awareness Conference in Albuquerque, NM (1975), the New Mexico Conference for Brotherhood Awareness (Abq., 1976), and the 25th Anniversary of the Tierra Amarilla Raid in Glendale, CA (1992). Also included are photos of Tijerina's family and friends.

Peter Francis Nabokov was born on October 11, 1940, in Auburn, N.Y. He received his B.S. from Columbia University in 1965, and his M.S. from Goddard College in 1973. Nabokov worked on the Navajo, Sioux, and Crow reservations in 1962. He was a reporter for the Santa Fe New Mexican from 1967-1968. Nabokov has held many teaching positions, including instructor in American Indian Studies at Peninsula College, Monterey, Ca. in the 1970s, instructor at University of California, Berkeley from 1979-1982...
